Key only turns forward let’s say half way. I can put it neutral but it will not turn further to start. Nor does it seem to let me do anything with windows etc.
the steering wheel is NOT locked:
Sudden issue after sitting a couple months any help or advice? I’ve been searching but not found anything to conclusive to my problem….
thanks!

I had a key in my 05 Passat that sometimes would not come out. I squirted some lube in and it has been good for several years.

I don't think it's very common, but on my Jetta I've had the rod in the ignition cylinder housing break, preventing me from both starting and turning the key all the way off. I know the Passat uses the exact same part, so could fail in the same way. It's a bit annoying to replace the housing, as it's held on with tamper proof bolts.

What was the rundown on replacing it?

It's pretty self explanatory besides the tamper proof bolts. Remove the upper and lower covers, remove ignition lock cylinder and ignition switch from the housing, remove the housing. I pulled a replacement from the local pick n pull ('10 City Golf donor, so 10 years newer at least). Chisel and hammer to remove the tamper proof bolts.

Turns out she just needed some force! Or heat (warm weather) and lube, I was being somewhat gentle. Thanks
