2014 Passat TDI SEL

Stock, nothing has been done or worked on since the heater core was replaced by the dealer @122k
Pulled up to a red light the other day, when the light turned green, I went to accelerate and the car shuddered and acted lie it was going to die. Made it over to the shoulder and it didn't want to rev up, like the throttle was just stuck. Turned it off and then when I tried to turn it back on it only started for a couple seconds then just died. After that it would long crank before trying to fire up again. If I cycled it a few times, it would finally run for another 1-2 seconds. No warning on the dash no lights or error messages coming up.
My initial impressions were fuel related, since we have all heard the stories of the failed HPFP's. Had the car towed home and proceeded to check out the Fuel Pressure Metering Valve. There was not any evidence of metal shavings, everything was very clean. I also took out the Fuel Filter and once again nothing was in there, it was very clean. Even though it's only been about 10k since the last fuel filter was done, I went ahead and put in a new filter. Still the same problem exists, cranks then runs for 1-2 seconds then dies.
Ran a scan and cannot find any codes at all, nothing is coming up which makes diagnosing it very tough.
Since I didn't have any error codes to go off, I searched around and saw a few guys talk about the possibility of a failed Metering Valve and that it might not show any codes when it fails. Since we have a couple TDI's in the garage, I pulled off those parts to test them on this car. In single steps, I swapped out the Metering Valve, Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor and then finally the Fuel Rail Pressure Regulating Valve. After each of these swaps, the same problem still remains, it will crank, start for a couple seconds then just die. Before each of these tests, I ran the "Transfer Fuel Pump (FP) test" to purge any air from the lines.
Not sure if there is a sensor for the lift pump part of the system? Obviously I can hear it running but not sure if it's delivering adequate pressure?
