2012 JSW 128K Historical P2002, won't pass NY OBDII test (one-person regen via VCDS?)

Hello folks.

I have a 2012 JSW with ~128,000 miles that I can't get to pass NY inspection because of a stored P2002 code.

I took the car out twice this week and drove it 50+ miles both days (with an OBDII dongle and Torque Pro running). I can't get all of the "testing" checkmarks to turn green and when I take it to the shop they still see a historical P2002 code so they can't inspect it via OBDII.

I had the DPF cleaned in January 2024. I hooked it up to VCDS this morning and it says there's 120ml in the canister. I cannot run a stationary DPF regen (because I might burn the car to the ground with > 40ml in the can).

Can I initiate a driving DPF regen via VCDS while driving the car by myself? (I don't have anyone else who can help me with this process while driving). Is there another way to do this other than driving it a long way on the highway?

Thanks!

Thank you @oilhammer, yeah I'm preparing myself (mentally and financially) to pay for this out of pocket at my local mechanic.

I'll have it on the road for a long drive this weekend, so IF the tailpipe is not sooty AND I don't get any dash lights AND my OBDII shows 100% ready for testing by the end of the weekend I'll take it back to get an inspection on Monday.

Otherwise, It'll go in for the replacement.

Not too many CJAAs left that have not needed a DPF replacement by now. I do them constantly. They were an issue BEFORE Dieselgate, there was a TSB about it. Afterwards it is much, much worse. Because the Dieselgate "fix" was to attempt to bring NOx emissions down. Well the only way to do that, aside from kluging on an entire SCR system, is to do exactly what they did: install a larger deNOx adsorber and crank up both EGR duty cycles. And that means MORE soot, which means MORE DPF regens, which makes them crack even faster.

Its become second nature now with replacing these. Half the time its like just aimlessly doing it because your brain knows what to do already and just does it. 😂

My brain is getting tired. Actually, my brain is mostly getting tired of my feet, legs, arms, shoulders getting tired. And my eyesight being such that I have to pick between seeing up close, or seeing far away... not both at the same time. :p

Man, we need help here.... :(

We are two techs down right now (like, we are DESPERATELY trying to hire someone). And I have work that I cannot get to, and a couple cars here I just cannot figure out what is wrong with them, and don't have the time to dedicate to them. I've got three racks full at any one given time. And now even more of the CR TDIs are coming out of warranty, and are becoming MASSIVE time sponges, especially the V6s.

Update: I drove the car 200 miles. The check engine light came on again. Same old errors. It'll go in for a DPF replace on Monday. Thanks for all fo the help.
