Oh how much I miss Canadian dealerships indeed.

Dealer still have this car and they haven't call me at all. I wonder if they did the fix, took it around the block and trigger a code lol

If thats the case, for sure they need mileage on it before they can do a claim cause otherwise it would be very suspicious.

I called and finally was able to talk to the service advisor, they are indeed just slow.
Car could be ready tomorrow afternoon, but it would be Monday for me to get it back. I am not really happy in this 2024 Tiguan, but whatever. I drive plenty of rentals when travelling, this is not the worst rental I had.

No dice. After a week and a day at this dealer, they couldn't do recall 24CV since indeed (I checked) the inside of the airbox looks nothing like what the recall calls for. 24CV is needed before 23U3 which is the dieselgate fix.

Then they also finally said even with the airbox fixed, they scanned the car and recall 23U3 needs no codes at all, not even pending ones.

...so, I will fix both issues and eventually bring it back, so that they can do the rest. They quoted $1500 to fix the airbox, and $4000 for the DPF/EGR, total around 6 grand. I believe I can achieve both for around $1500 in parts and my time.

I believe the issue was the car did not have full readiness. I wonder if I can fix/clean bits and pieces to make it clear readiness, then take it back in to get 23U3.

for recall 24CV, indeed someone did mess up the airbox, so I am getting another one to get it back to original, so they can perform that recall and clear it from the queue.

It'll be a process, and perhaps I will end up having to replace DPF and EGR parts to be able to clear readiness and finally take it back for recalls, but this car is in great shape, and wrenching is my hobby, so let's go!

What happened with the airbox that made it so they cant do it? Also, readiness has nothing to do with it. Basically any pending/static faults in the ECM has to be fixed, Unless its being replaced with the recall. Dealers have had claims kicked back cause of them not following this procedure. Once you fix the DPF/EGR, just clear the faults and then maybe drive for a couple days before bringing back just to up the mileage to when it was in last.

Before any of that can happen I hafta get a functional stock airbox. Mine had an accident whereby the ram air pressure was increased and warm air intake was deleted with prejudice. ;)
This happen to the airbox. I didn't understand the implications of it.

I will wait until better weather to start chasing emission things in this car. I already fixed suspension issues which destroyed a perfectly good set of winter tires. Also the weak starter got fully rebuilt, and all fluids changed. New battery also went in.

Thanks for the offer. I already have one from @p.e.fletcher , he is getting ready to ship. Then I am thinking, maybe I can source a cheap working DPF that I can install and clear the codes that way. The EGR filter I can try cleaning, or just a new one, those are not super expensive.

No worries! If you cant source a DPF filter, I might be able to source one out for ya too. Would be cheaper for you due to currency. haha.

Another update. This car just got both campaigns 24CV and 23U3 completed by my local dealership.

Now I need to put some millage on, which end up in a MIL, or at least the "EGR insufficient flow" stored code.

I am super happy, this car will have extended TDI warranty! It says pending in the website right now, but I guess VWoA needs some paperwork from the dealership to fully activate.

Today there were already a couple of pending codes in the engine module:

Exhaust pressure control valve - stuck closed, and stuck open. The stuck closed finally created a MIL while I had the car running.

These are new codes I haven't seen myself in this car. The recurrent code was EGR insufficient flow, enough to trigger MIL, but then again went away on its own. Also, only 1 time I saw a DPF pending code, forget the details, I think it was efficiency below threshold one.

I need to wait a prudent amount of time to claim warranty work here, but at the same time I don't want to damage any new parts they just installed (NOx catalyst).

How long should I wait?

Dealer installed new style EGR filter (the small one), which I guess it's already full since the "EGR insufficient flow" code with MIL came back.

I saw the new EGR filter and NOx catalyst up close when under the car, to change the AC condenser...I only ended up with 5 "extra" screws, I call that a triumph, considering I've never used the service position, or completely taken the front clip off, piece by piece (since I didn't know better) LOL

Very true. I cleaned the old filter real good, so that I could clear the code and get some millage on it to bring it back for the fix. First time I cleaned it, it was really clogged, I had to blow really hard to get air thru, but it only lasted ~250 miles (regen in-between) until the pending code came back.

So I cleaned it a second time, and drove it like 100 miles before the appointment...that worked. Perhaps the EGR valve is sticking, but that's for the dealer to figure out, eventually, as I believe it is still too soon to claim warranty work.

Theres a TSB that combines but the DPF fault and the EGR flow fault. Basically just replacement of the DPF and EGR pipe (That was replaced with a updated one).
