I had an engine control module fault happen to myself and my wife a few times, brought it to the dealer(shrewsbury VW). 13 days later they have replaced the oil pressure sensor(believed to be the issue) and i pick the car up. They were also kind enough to provide me a 2600 dollar quote - brakes all around, tires, 40k service that i did myself(car is at 51,5).

Question is if VW is unable to definitively fix this issue what recourse do i have? You have to turn the car off and on which isn't always practical otherwise you have no power. Where we live it is quite hilly and driving a car with no power isn't safe.

z85rado, you list your location as west chester pa and dealer is in northern nj. Misdiagnosis by dealer is no surprise, happens on a regular basis. Along with the dealer estimate, did anyone suggest to you it might be time to replace a 5yo battery, going into cooler weather?

Sounds like your car is going into "limp mode". Your best bet is to find someone near you who will do a VCDS scan for you. The ECU will store a code even if the CEL doesn't come on. Better yet, if you plan on keeping the car for a while, buy one of your own from Ross-Tech. Mine has paid for itself many times over and gets me the occasional beers as compensation for scanning other folks' cars...

That's what I love about the dealer....NOT. Can't fix the problem at hand but give priority to selling you what you don't want/need. No matter what you bring it in for the first thing that happens is the service tech comes looking for you with your cabin filter in his hand.
I am surprised they said it needs brakes at 51K, I have heard most are going 100K or more on brakes.
A for the issue at hand, do you have any good VW independent shops around? As with all my vehicles I much prefer a good Indy than a dealership for anything I can't or don't want to do once the warranty is over.

Haven't updated my locations since i bought the car...

There is an indy shop i can throw a rock at from my house but the car is under warranty so the dealer it goes

it goes into limp mode when cold and usually under load where it would need the boost. acts like it has no turbo. where we live is quite hilly.

They reported the rear pads are at 4mm, and the fronts 6. I didn't put snows on last winter so i haven't had the tires off in about 18 months. I'll check it out if/when i put the winter tires on this year.

There will be codes stored in the ECU. If you can't find anyone nearby who has VCDS, any FLAPS can read the generic OBD codes. If you have that done and report the codes, maybe someone here can help with the diagnosis.

Like I said, have it scanned and report whatever codes you find here...
