I had phase 2 completed yesterday, reading the work order they changed my oil and used G E55 030 1QD SP which is the new Auti/VW 0/30 weight 507 oil. Since when did the weight change from 5/30 to 0/30? And is it ok? The Manual says 5/30.

FYI, search function isn't working, so don't know if this topic has been thoroughly vetted.

My 17 Subaru calls for 0w20... I personally couldn't see it. I started sending in oil samples starting on my last oil change @ 20k (0w20). I will send this one (5w30) in when its changed soon...we'll see.
The dealership gave me grief over doing it but I made sure to have them use the "Subaru" oil.

My point? Like op. I can't see how 0w can be as good as at least 5w on cold start. I guess we'll see what the numbers say?

I tried the 0w-30 in the 2011 JSW TDI (367,000 mi). I use fuelly and my mileage when down to ave 36 MPG vs my normal 40MPG. Could be the summer heat, shorter trips etc. (thanks covid). I normally do 55K miles a year, YTD I have done 11K. The 2015 GSW TDI seems about the same with the switch. I will probably keep the 0w-30 through the winter and switch back to the 5w-30 in the spring. Also, you cant get the 5w-30 at the dealer anymore unless they have stock. They told me it's the same Mobil 1 esp 0w-30 you can get from the store. My dealer allows me to bring a container and buy at bulk prices, about 6.50 a quart.

I am sure the zero weight oils are EPA mandated. Theoretically a zero weight oil should give you better fuel economy.

I have been running the ESP 5/30 in both my 2015 GSW and 2012 X5 35d - I like the low saps and good numbers everyone has had with it...Probably one of the best diesel oils out there. However, I recently realized the newest M1 ESP oil has dropped the BMW LL04 rating, but is still 507 compliant. I wonder why that happened? I think I have 1 or two oil changes remaining. Napa had a heck of sale on this oil last year and I bought as much as I could find. I think it was down to $4.99 per qt or something like that.
