Timing belt snapped due to glow plug tip falling in?

I believe this is what happened to my BHW (swapped in my MK4).

The belt was relatively new.





I'll snap a picture of the piston tomorrow. What do you guys think?

Should I get the steel glow plugs this time around?

That’s horrifying. My glow plugs have been in so long I’m afraid to check them.

That happened quite a bit with the original ceramic glow plugs in BHWs and BEWs.
That is why VW switched them over to the 5volt steel GPs. It would require the software to be flashed to accommodate them.
Or get the latest version of NGK glow plugs that are part steel and part ceramic. They are 7 volt glow plugs and I believe will be compatible with the original software.
Ask a tuner to be sure. The new ones heat up quickly so there may be different glow times in the program.

2001 golf tdi 4 door auto now a manual, mine, 2000 golf 2 door M/T son's,daughters 98 NB non-TDI 2.0, 2003 TDI NB for next daughter, head repaired and on road,gluten for punishment got another tdi 2001NB,another yellow tdi NB
